Couple recount unpleasant experience at Lagos airport amid relocation conundrum

  • Keyamo approves old terminal D wing for use

The relocation order issued to airlines by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo to relocate to the new Lagos airport terminal has caused so much pain to the users of the facility and airlines that are having to manage their operations which has put a lot of travelers to so much pain.

Yes, the situation may have improved by many others have started recounting their ordeals as the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is working tirelessly to resolve the conundrum at both the old and new international airport terminal.

A couple who returned to Nigeria at the weekend recounted their experience at the Lagos airport alongside those travellers. Their story is very interesting.

“First, after deplaning, we were shuttled to the ‘new airport terminal’ because a previous fire incident had rendered the main terminal building inoperable. The shuttle bus ride was nervy, especially towards the end when it scraped up the ramp.”

“Secondly, we got stuck in the lift of the new terminal building after a power outage. Thankfully it was brief. We quickly exited the lift and used the stairs. Third, the restroom at the point of entry had no running water.”

Fourthly, we waited approximately two hours for our luggage. The luggage belt was only working in fits and starts and the entire environment was a study of confused activity, amidst yells and loud conversations. Fifthly, while the immigration process was reasonably efficient, we encountered the usual corps of mendicants in plain clothes and uniforms asking for this and that. It was depressing.

The couple who spoke on condition of anonymity stated that the euphoria of my holiday had quickly dissipated after my raw encounter with our reality.

Meanwhile, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said Keyamo has graciously allowed the use of the D Wing of the Old Murtala  Muhammed International Terminal to compliment the New International Terminal in order to ease the facilitation of passengers through the airport.

The use of the D Wing for processing of passengers according to the agency has since commenced, stressing that the old terminal of the Lagos airport would be renovated in phases.
